14th January 2018

Half way through January already!   I am delighted to report that this week has been a big improvement on the last one – mind you it couldn’t have got much worse!

We now have a new freezer which actually takes quite a bit more stuff than the old one so I am a happy bunny again (sad, isn’t it?)

I forgot to mention last week that the charge for the Gocek Tunnel has gone up again.   It’s now 5.50 TL each way.   No wonder such a lot of traffic is using the old road over the mountain again.

I mentioned last week that Zeki, the newsagent, has lost his big shop on the corner.  We noticed yesterday that the line of cash machines which used to be outside have also gone.  However, there are two new ones by Macrocenter so we can still get money easily.

We have never visited Mardin in southeastern Turkey but this article in Daily Sabah has whetted my appetite – it does sound well worth a visit (CLICK HERE).  Maybe it might go on this year’s list.

Talking to some of the stallholders in the market last Sunday, I was interested to learn how positive they are about an increase in visitors this summer. Let’s hope they are right..
