14th October 2018

Goodness, half way through October already!   The weather is definitely changing.  Whilst daytime temperatures are still pretty warm, the evenings and nights are getting cooler – time for light sweaters and long trousers!   We have also had a couple of mega thunderstorms with torrential rain.  But this morning the skies are blue and the sun is shining again.

We enjoyed a short break at our favourite Hotel Canada in Cirali this week.  (CLICK HERE).  It really is such a lovely place to just relax and enjoy the peace and quiet and it is still only a five minute walk to the small local village.   We took a trip up the cable car on Mount Olympos as we hadn’t done it for a while.   The day started off bright and sunny with amazing views over the Mediterranean coastline but as we reached the summit, the clouds came down and we even had a hailstorm.   The whole platform was covered with ice – extraordinary.

We also visited the new IKEA store in Antalya (much to Pete’s disgust!)   I found it quite disappointing as it’s pretty small – certainly a lot smaller than our nearest store in Izmir.   Sadly, there is only a very small food section – my main reason for visiting!

The national holiday celebrating Republic Day is coming up fast – it’s on 29th October.   As usual, the school band is practising every day, round and round the market place playing the same tune every year.   Still, it’s fun to watch the kids slowly improving and the day itself is always amazing with marching, music, readings from Ataturk and a general sense of celebration.   The Turks certainly are a lot more openly enthusiastic than we Brits!!
