20th August 2017

We go home tomorrow!   This week has been quieter than last week thank goodness, and we even managed to sit out in the garden for a WHOLE afternoon.   Still, I can’t wait to wake up on Tuesday morning and see blue skies and sunshine;  I have really missed spending most of my time out of doors whilst we have been in the UK.

There’s an interesting article in Hurriyet Daily News about the possibility of lowering food prices (CLICK HERE).  Prices have certainly been going up over the last few months but I’m not convinced this will have any effect!

We have visited the Gallipoli peninsula several times over the last few years but I have never come across this island mentioned in Daily Sabah (CLICK HERE) It definitely sounds like a place to visit next time.

Kurban Bayram will be starting soon and I recently read this information.

The announcement of a 10 day public holiday has just been confirmed for the Kurban Bayram and Victory Day celebrations here in Turkey. The dates are saturday 26th August to Monday 4th September inclusive. Over this period government offices will be closed. This will include some government owned banks. Other banks may have a 2 day closure on Monday 28th August and Tuesday 29th August. They may also close on Thursday 31st August . This will also affect the filling of cash point ATM and as it is still peak season demand for withdrawals may be high. Please ensure if you are on holiday in Turkey over this celebration period you are not totally relying on cash withdrawals for spending money. Plan ahead and have cash available.

It really will be My Life in Gocek next weekend!!
