21st February 2016

I am writing this in the middle of a totally unexpected thunderstorm waiting for the electricity to go off.   After the glorious weather of the last few days, this is a nasty shock – the forecast said cloudy!

According to this article (CLICK HERE) the Turkish government is considering banning smoking in outdoor areas.   Bearing in mind the ban on smoking in indoor public places is pretty well ignored, this should be interesting!   A non-smoking Turkey?  I don’t think so…..

Those of you who love this country will be aware that although the countryside is spectacular and the views amazing, it is often marred by piles of rubbish, plastic bottles, old tiles and other debris.   I was delighted to see this article (CLICK HERE) describing one man’s campaign to clear up Fethiye.  I wish him well but am not sure how successful he will be.

As most of you are aware, I am very careful to avoid any political comment on this page.  However, I feel I should say how very sad I was to learn about the latest bombing in Ankara last week.
I was touched to listen to an announcement from the mosque commemorating those killed (it’s usually announcements only for those who have died locally).
