23rd April 2017
St George’s Day, Shakespeare’s birthday and spring in the UK and, of course, Childrens Day in Turkey – quite a list. We drove across Dartmoor on Friday – strange not to see pine trees and mountains but glorious views across fields and gentle hills.
As a change from our usual visits to Roman sites in Turkey we visited Saltram House, a National Trust property near Plymouth. It is always fun when people say ‘have you come far?’ and we say ‘Turkey’. We were joined by this little squirrel whilst we had a snack – quite happy with our crusts!
I was pleased to see an advert in the paper the other day for Thomas Cook promoting trips to Turkey. Fingers crossed that people will be tempted by reasonable holiday charges.
I understand that the main shopping street in Gocek is now paved but work is carrying on along the side streets. Macrocenter and Gourmet Garage are now open which is great news – a chance to buy some European goodies! (OK, so I’m not fussed at the moment, but wait till I get back).
Only two more weeks to go before I can open the curtains every morning without having to wonder what the weather will be doing. Still, we have been here two and a half weeks without any rain so I shouldn’t grumble!
