Good morning everyone from a chilly Somerset. Our journey started well with comfortable Turkish Airlines flights, although Ataturk Airport was heaving as usual. I am always amazed at the different nationalities passing through this busy airport. The difficulties started when we picked up our hire car for the journey down to Wellington. Early Friday evening is not the best time to travel M4/M5 and various accidents along the way slowed us down. We finally arrived home at 8pm UK time which of course was 11pm Turkish time (bearing in mind we had left Gocek at 7am)! Still, we are here and the central heating is keeping us warm.
For anyone who hires a car in the UK, we have used a firm called Indigo several times and found them extremely efficient and reasonably priced. This is their website if you are interested (CLICK HERE).
Before we left Gocek we enjoyed a good dinner at the Palmiye restaurant (previously the Bereket) further down the road from the Mercan. There are new owners there but the food was tasty and inexpensive and even the wine was a reasonable price!
Reading this article in Hurriyet Daily News gave me a bit of a shock at first as I assumed the Aspendos Arena was the Roman amphitheatre! (CLICK HERE). On reading further, of course it is the modern arena on the road before the amphitheatre but the article is still quite interesting.
So off to Waitrose this morning (my sad highlight of the day). No doubt it will be full of Christmas goodies (well there is only a month to go). Enjoy the warmth in Gocek!
