It’s lovely to be back in Turkey again with blue skies and sunshine. It’s always great to visit the UK and catch up with family and friends but to be surrounded by smiling friendly Turkish people is special.
Well, some big news this week…..Gocek has its first set of traffic lights (drum roll)! The intersection down by the BP garage on the main Dalaman-Fethiye road has been an accident blackspot for a while and now technology has come to the town. It will be interesting to see how the locals cope!
It was encouraging to read this article in Hurriyet Daily News reporting that tourist figures were up almost 50 per cent in July (CLICK HERE). Let’s hope it continues.
Gocek will certainly be busy for the next few days with celebrations for Victory Day and then Kurban Bayram. This means a 10 day holiday for Turkey so if you are visiting, make sure you keep plenty of cash with you as ATM machines will be heavily used. There is an article I found useful about Victory Day (CLICK HERE) which you might find interesting.
I had heard a rumour that the restrictions on carrying laptops in the cabin on flights from Turkey had been lifted. I’ve spent some time going through the internet but according to this article by the British Embassy in Ankara, the ban has only been lifted in the two Istanbul airports and continues in force at Dalaman (CLICK HERE). Not good news for those of you traveling in the near future.
So Iyi Bayramlar – have a great week.
