2nd October 2016

So it’s October and last Friday it was still 30 degrees here!

We had another amazing example of Turkish service this week.   As we have recently had a new tyre on the car, the wheels needed balancing.  We went into the sanayi at Dalaman and drove around trying to find somewhere to get it done.   We eventually pulled up at a tyre place and asked.   They made two phone calls on our behalf and then one of the men got in the car and drove us to the right location!   Can you imagine this happening in the UK?  Added to that, mending two small punctures which they found, cleaning out the tyres and balancing the wheels cost the vast sum of 50tl (£12).   As usual in Turkey no sign of ear defenders, hard hats or gloves – just men getting on doing the job.

We made our first visit to the new Metro cash and carry in Fethiye.   This is the same chain as Makro in the UK.  We weren’t terribly impressed.   If you want catering size supplies of detergents etc. or spices then the prices are very competitive but compared with the Metro stores in Antalya and Izmir, Fethiye is not particularly impressive.

A couple of days ago there was an earthquake near Rhodes.   Apparently it was felt here in Gocek although we managed to sleep through it – thank goodness.

We are off on a mini-break to the lovely Canada Hotel in Cirali this week.   We are really looking forward to seeing all our friends there.   There’s something quite relaxing about returning to the same hotel – at least you don’t have to find your way around!
