31st December 2017

So this is the last Life in Wellington/Life in Gocek for this year.   We go back to Gocek on Wednesday and I am really looking forward to hopefully, some blue skies and sunshine.   We have luckily missed the snow which has been heavy in some parts of the UK, but it has meant that we haven’t managed to travel to see family as much as we had planned.

I imagine Gocek is full of goodies ready for the New Year celebrations.   It has amused me over the years to see more and more things in the Turkish shops which we would regard as Christmassy – fir trees, baubles etc.

I understand that West Café is closed for several weeks carrying out major renovations.   It will be interesting to see what they are doing.

We haven’t suffered any major earthquake damage in Gocek over the last few years, thank goodness, but this article in Hurriyet Daily News shows an updated map of the areas most likely to suffer. (CLICK HERE) These now include Antalya, Kas and Bodrum – fingers crossed  the danger zones don’t get any closer.

Apparently Gatwick airport was in chaos on Friday after major computer problems – I do hope it’s all sorted before next Wednesday.

A very happy New Year to you all – let’s hope 2018 sees Turkey increase in popularity and keeps the sun shining.   The exchange rate is still 5tl to the pound!
