3rd June 2018

The weather seems to have settled down after a few showers and thunderstorms early in the week.  Now it’s a bright and sunny morning here in Gocek and the market is in full swing.

We saw something this week we had never seen before in Turkey – girls playing football on the council football pitch.   Seems a long way from headscarves and long skirts!    A good sign that the young girls here are still able to enjoy themselves.

We took some friends to Kayakoy the other day.   Whilst we were there we visited Villa Rhapsody hotel;  a very attractive, calm, peaceful place. (CLICK HERE)

We had an excellent lunch there and the owners, a Dutch lady and Turkish husband, were very welcoming.   We didn’t see the rooms but it would be a great place to go for an evening meal and an overnight stay.   I think we shall definitely go back again.

Over the years, we have visited quite a few of Turkey’s amazing archaeological sites but I found this article in Hurriyet Daily News interesting as apparently Turkey has 78 sites on the Unesco World Heritage site list. (CLICK HERE). We still have a lot to visit!

Our friends staying here at the moment go for a walk along the seafront most mornings picking up plastic, broken glass and other bits of rubbish.   They are horrified at the amount of debris on the shoreline and think we ought to organize regular rubbish pickup sessions.   Whilst I think it’s a great idea, I am not sure we could educate the Turks to stop chucking their rubbish away.  What do you think?

We are half way through Ramazan now so it won’t be too long until the calls from the mosque quieten down a bit.
